Open Doors
We are opening the doors of our home for a weekend.
I've nicknamed our home "The Field Station," and thanks to wonderful friends who have worked with us this summer, it has turned a corner. Fresh paint on the walls. Light falling the way we always hoped it would. The wood beams and steel are visible, the way they have been for decades, but with new life. The building has always been a working place, a former glassblowing studio. It still carries that pulse.
We are very thankful for the friends who gave their time, their skills, and their good company to help us get here. And my husband, who continues the work. I am grateful for you every day.
It is our home. But those clean walls and that beautiful light give us something we have wanted for a long time. Room to share. While we aren't completely finished yet, the bones are ready and I have that blank canvas I wanted. Art is starting to fill the walls.
An invitation for you:
Come on by the weekend of October 3rd and 4th, from 10 to 5. That weekend, Fieldwork Vermont takes part in the Vermont Crafts Council's Fall Open Studio Weekend, a statewide self-guided tour that is free and open to everyone. Artists, galleries, and art centers across Vermont open their doors for two days, and visitors plan their own routes between them. We are proud to be among the artists taking part. These artists share something with one another, and with Fieldwork. We all work from the same source, inspired by our natural surroundings.
The feature of the weekend is my photography in the studio. Landscapes and woods from these hills, mounted by hand and custom framed.
But, if you are interested, walk through the doors to see what is beyond the studio.
Fieldwork is an online gallery, and for that weekend the walls of our home hold some of that collection. Hand-colored natural history plates from the 1800s. Contemporary paintings (and more) by artists I have long admired.
The Field Station is a work in progress. But I am loving every phase. I keep stepping back, moving something three inches, and stepping back again. (Luna supervises. She has opinions.)
